Holding Onto Faith When You Cannot See Faith or Hope: A Guide to Navigating Life’s Storms

Life often feels like an unpredictable sea, tossing us with waves of doubt, fear, and despair. These moments can make faith and hope seem elusive, distant, or non-existent. Yet, such challenges are when holding onto faith becomes most critical. This article explores nurturing and sustaining faith when it feels like you have none, offering practical advice, spiritual encouragement, and actionable steps to help you rediscover your inner light.

What Is Faith? The Foundation of Resilience

Faith is more than a religious concept—it’s a deeply personal and universal force. It’s believing in something greater than yourself, even without tangible evidence. Faith sustains you through challenges, giving you the strength to persevere when logic and reason suggest giving up.

Faith is the guiding light that pulls you forward. Hope allows you to envision a brighter future, even when the present is shrouded in darkness. Together, they form a foundation for resilience, helping you face life’s uncertainties with courage and determination.

Why Faith and Hope Sometimes Feel Distant

Periods of doubt are regular and can arise for a variety of reasons:

  • Overwhelming Circumstances: Financial struggles, health issues, or losing a loved one can cloud one’s sense of purpose and direction.
  • Unrealized Expectations: When life doesn’t go as planned, it’s easy to question your faith.
  • Prolonged Challenges: Persistent hardships can drain emotional energy, leaving little room for hope.

Understanding that these moments of disconnection are part of the human experience can help you approach them with self-compassion rather than judgment.

Practical Steps to Reignite Faith and Hope

Reconnecting with faith during trying times isn’t about a quick fix—it’s a process of intentional actions and mental shifts. Here’s how to begin:

1. Embrace Stillness and Reflection

Stillness is a powerful tool in a world filled with distractions. Take 10-15 minutes daily to sit quietly, breathe deeply, and center your thoughts. Meditation, mindfulness, or prayer can help you reconnect with your inner self and the divine.

Example:
Imagine being in a dark room and lighting a single candle. The flame may not eliminate all the darkness, but it gives enough light to take a step forward. Stillness works in the same way—it offers clarity in the chaos.

2. Seek Inspiration

Surround yourself with uplifting stories, spiritual texts, or encouraging media. Listening to podcasts, reading books by inspiring authors, or watching motivational videos can rekindle your sense of hope.

Example:
Consider Viktor Frankl’s book Man’s Search for Meaning, which details his experience surviving the Holocaust. His message of finding meaning even in suffering is a testament to the power of faith.

3. Cultivate Gratitude

Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s lacking to what’s present. Even in difficult times, there are small blessings to be thankful for—sunlight streaming through a window, a kind word from a stranger, or the ability to take a deep breath.

Action Step:
Start a gratitude journal. Each morning, write down three things you’re thankful for. Over time, this practice can reshape your perspective and anchor your faith in the goodness of life.

4. Lean on a Support System

Faith doesn’t thrive in isolation. Share your struggles with trusted friends, family, or spiritual mentors. Sometimes, their encouragement can reignite your own belief in better days ahead.

Example:
A single mother facing financial difficulties shared her burdens with her church community. Their support provided immediate help and strengthened her faith in humanity and divine timing.

5. Engage in Acts of Service

Helping others has a profound way of lifting your spirits. Volunteering at a local shelter, mentoring someone in need, or simply offering a listening ear can remind you of your strength and purpose.

Why It Works:
When you step outside your struggles to help someone else, you gain perspective on your challenges and experience the fulfillment of making a difference.

6. Visualize Positive Outcomes

Visualization is a powerful tool for rekindling hope. Close your eyes and imagine yourself overcoming your current challenges. See yourself thriving, smiling, and at peace.

Practical Exercise:
Create a vision board with images and affirmations that represent the life you want. Place it somewhere you’ll see daily as a reminder of your goals and aspirations.

7. Affirm Your Faith Daily

Words have power. Affirmations can help reshape your mindset and reinforce positive beliefs. Choose affirmations that resonate with you, such as:

  • “I trust in the process of life.”
  • “I am guided, protected, and loved.”
  • “This too shall pass.”

The Role of Spirituality in Sustaining Faith

Faith is often intertwined with spirituality—a connection with a higher power or the universe. Nurturing your spiritual side can provide comfort and guidancep through prayer, meditation, or time spent in nature.

Exploring Your Spiritual Practices

  1. Prayer: Speak your thoughts aloud or silently to the higher power you believe in. Prayer is a form of surrender, reminding you that you’re not alone.
  2. Time in Nature: Nature has a unique way of grounding us. A walk in the woods, listening to birdsong, or watching a sunrise can rekindle your sense of awe.
  3. Creative Expression: Art, music, and writing can be influential outlets for expressing emotions and reconnecting with your soul.

Real-Life Stories of Faith and Resilience

Nelson Mandela: A Beacon of Hope

During his 27 years of imprisonment, Nelson Mandela held onto faith that his fight against apartheid would succeed. Despite harsh conditions, he remained optimistic, proving that faith can sustain us through unimaginable hardships.

Helen Keller: Triumph Over Adversity

Blind and deaf from a young age, Helen Keller overcame immense challenges to become an author, activist, and speaker. Her story is a testament to the power of inner strength and belief in possibilities.

Your Story Matters

You don’t have to be a world leader or historical figure to inspire others. Your journey through adversity can be a source of hope for those around you.

Navigating the Darkest Moments

Even with tools and strategies, there will be times when faith feels out of reach. During these moments:

  1. Allow Yourself to Feel: Grieving, crying, or expressing anger is okay. Bottling up emotions can hinder your healing process.
  2. Focus on Small Wins: Celebrate minor victories, no matter how small. They are stepping stones to rebuilding faith.
  3. Trust the Timing: Life’s timeline often differs from our expectations. Trust that everything happens for a reason, even if the cause isn’t unclear.

When Professional Help Is Needed

If hopelessness persists, consider seeking help from a therapist, counselor, or faith leader. Mental health is as important as physical health, and there’s no shame in seeking support.

Signs You May Need Help

  • Persistent feelings of hopelessness
  • Difficulty carrying out daily tasks
  • Isolation from loved ones
  • Thoughts of self-harm

Faith as a Lifelong Journey

Faith isn’t about having all the answers but believing in possibilities. It’s the bridge between the present and a brighter future, even when the path ahead isn’t visible. You can hold onto faith by practicing gratitude, seeking inspiration, and nurturing your spiritual side, even in the darkest times.

Remember, faith and hope are like seeds. Even when buried in the soil of despair, they have the potential to grow, bloom, and flourish. Keep watering them with belief, action, and perseverance. The light will find you.

What Happens if I Get Up at 4AM?

Now we must retrain ourselves. Mind, Body & Soul.

“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion,”—Muhammed Ali

Years and years of garbage, we’ve fed our brains, and for many of us our bodies. Let’s clean up both. We can all do better in mind, body, and spirit.

Schedule time for mind, body, and soul. Let’s learn how:

  1. Let’s start with our body. Without stamina, you will peter out before you finish a full day. 4:00 AM lets begin with cardio. Give yourself one hour to take care of your body. Walk, ride a bike, treadmill, jumping jacks, just do it.
  2. 5:00 AM lets feed our body. Nourish the body temple with foods that truly feed your body. While we’re eating, listen to motivation, listen to something that fills your mind with knowledge. Find a Podcast, listen to a video, read while in the kitchen. Fill the mind and body with energy food.
  3. 6:00 AM, it’s time to feed the soul. Meditate, visualize, get on your knees and find God. Find your spiritual self. You have not because you ask not. Up your ask and God will up his give.

Now imagine where you will be Mind, Body, and soul after one year 365 hours focused on each of the three purposes to create the world-class you.

prayer, hope, love

You can lay in bed, believing the bullshit story you’ve sold yourself most of your life. This is too hard; I can’t do it. Keep that opinion and your right. This is your wake-up call. Set the damn clock and take your life back, the enemy will convince you that you’re nothing, I’ve tried everything, If you bloody tried everything you would be living the life you want, not the bullshit life you accept.

Learn with me to manage your mind. Getting up at 4:00 AM, really you can’t get up that early, who the hell put that in your head, YOU. Get up.

The rest of the day focus your time with actionable tasks that produce a result. If working on anything that does not create a measurable outcome is a waste of time. Social media being your number one waste of time. Unless engagement with customers, fans, are the subject of your social media time. You’re wasting valuable time.

Let’s take a social media look. If your accounts are ways you engage customers or fans, then set daily times for this activity.

When you get to work, have a day filled with times that you perform set tasks. Doing the best, you can to stay on task during the day. If you get distracted, come back to where you left off.

What I use to track my day (this is no endorsement, it’s just what I choose to use). Two apps I have on my phone is Google® Tasks and Google® Calendar. The reason I use them is they’re free, and they work in unison. They also alert me when it’s time to change and move on. It also allows me to set up recurring activities to plan. Saves time.

Whatever calendar and task manager you choose to use. Use it. Even schedule downtime, take breaks to recharge.

If you track your day, focus time for activities and you don’t allow distractions for that time. If you don’t find twenty hours in your week that you gain. Something is wrong. When we honestly track our time, hold ourselves strictly accountable for time. You will find you have time in your day to do more!

Get your ass up or stay where you are. It’s your choice. Only you can begin this.

Beginners Guide to Meditation

Meditation is a fantastic way to help still your mind. Allowing you to relax in ways I am confident you never have before. Meditating also will enable you to visualize what your heart desires. Getting you into a state of bliss.

The great news is this is not hard at all to do or practice. The steps to get started are easy to learn.

prayer, spiritual, visualize

Let’s get started with what you need before you begin to meditate:

  1. Using meditation music helps a lot. If you have headphones for your smartphone, this works great. Headphones help drown out ambient noise that can distract your concentration. The music will help you focus your mind.
  2. Have a place where you can either sit on a comfortable pillow or chair or lay down (you don’t want to fall asleep), soft but not so that you sleep. We want to be awake but entirely pleasant.
  3. If possible, turn off cell phone notifications. It’s essential not to break your concentration.
  4. The most important thing before you begin is that you’re comfortable. Wear comfortable clothes, bare feet, a warm temperature, and no distractions.
  5. Think about what you would like to focus on during your meditation practice. Try to think only about one thing, for example, pick one; relaxation, happiness, let go of stress. If you have something, then use it.
  6. Remember, there is a reason it’s called a practice! Over time you will get excellent.
  7. There is no real-time limit. What I teach is to continue for 5 minutes and continue until you feel like you have finished. Find the bliss, enjoy it, and leave your meditation practice on a peak note.

Now that you have the stuff you need, where to begin:

  1. Get into a comfortable position. It’s not a bad idea to stretch for a moment to loosen up your body, nothing fancy, just reach.
  2. Turn on the music and begin to relax.
  3. Take a few deep cleansing breaths through the nose and out through the mouth. Fill your lungs with happiness and joy, exhale all the dark.
  4. As you finish the cleansing breaths, begin to focus on your breathing. Take nice lung-filling breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth. There are no strains, just lovely and smooth breathing. Fill your body with Clean, healing oxygen and exhale dark black stress, tension, and so on.
  5. Continue to breathe and let your body completely relax. Remove any thought from your head; all you want to concentrate on is in with the good and out with the bad. Relax!
  6. As you feel yourself relaxing, enjoy the moment and be present in that moment. (A side note here: if you’re having trouble, can’t relax, or your head is running ninety to nothing, be patient. This may take a couple of sessions to master.)
  7. Look through your mind’s eye and see yourself happy, stress-free, and tension-free in a place that makes you happy. Feel the emotions, and be grateful for this moment.
  8. Rinse and Repeat! Practice daily.

The power of meditation can only be experienced. Whatever preconceived notions you might have, have an open heart and give it a try.

Think You Can and You Will

Changing your mindset from “I can’t do that” to “I can.” Nothing is impossible if you truly set your mind to it. The change will come if your faith in what you endeavor is truly unwavering. Life has conditioned us to doubt our ability.

We’ve been indoctrinated into the world of “oh I can’t do that,” or those around us tell us we can’t. When our peers or family say “oh don’t try that you don’t have this or that” to even complete the work. Our minds are garbage dumps for the enemy. If you genuinely believe you can, you can. If you genuinely think you cannot, well, you’re right.

Stereotypes get broken every day. People achieve amazing things because they believe they can. Nothing or no man can stop you from reaching that which you desire. The family may tell you don’t try. Usually, that comes from a place where they don’t want to see you get hurt.spiritual, prayer

Perhaps in your life, you have not achieved much. Therefore, folks around you don’t think you have what it takes to do the project you intend. Don’t listen to naysayers even if they’re family. Listen to what is coming from your heart. If you have a burning to do something, then get off your butt and get going.

Let me warn you now. Be prepared to get bombarded with doubt, fear, and an overwhelming will rush over you. This is normal. Remember, we all are conditioned with doubt and fear. Those are not realities you have to subscribe too. Belief, unwavering faith that you can achieve what you are working towards will overcome doubt. It takes real work, but you can do it when you worth through times of uncertainty.

Successful people will tell you the reason they win. They’re willing to take one more step than you are to succeed. Losing is not an option. Fear, doubt, and roadblocks are all bumps in the road. Improvise, adapt, and overcome! Moreover, don’t quit!

Stand your ground in faith. Learn to develop a mindset of positive thoughts. Do the work before you and believe in your passion. It may be a title fight to get what you desire, but imagine what life change will come if you maintain your faith.

Belief is More Important than How

From personal experience, you have to believe before how will present itself. If you don’t believe down in your bones then the how will seem to elude you.

If you begin to see it before you get what it is you want, it will come into your life that much faster. What slows us down is how we accomplish a thing. Don’t worry about that. If you don’t know then how will come to you? It may come in the form of an idea popping in your head. A person out of the blue will show up with the answer. Something will happen that comes across your path all because you believe it to be so.

You have to put action behind your belief. Sitting on the couch watching cartoons, eating pizza and you suddenly say “I need money to pay the rent” um sorry you have to get off your behind and take action. Do the smallest of things to begin to see and believe what it is you’re trying to do.

faith, belief, Jesus

Believe Before You See

You can do things to take action such as educating yourself further in what it is you want to do. Read books, visit locations, speak to people familiar with what it is you want. Don’t worry if you don’t have the money, the connections, just focus on believing it’s so. If you don’t think it will happen, you’re 100% right.

Don’t put a time frame on anything. Successful people will tell you the reason they win. They’re willing to take one more step than you are. Willingness to dig in and move one more action than the competition. No matter the pain of the effort they make it. Dreams have to be worth fighting for, or they’re just that dreams. The big difference between passion and hope. Think about that sentence for a while.

We as humans waste so much time and energy on stupid things. Take this moment to see yourself in a whole new way. Visualize the life you want every day. If you do experience will unfold as it should. Destiny awaits those that will believe in a great future.

Take time daily to get still in mind, and visualize the future you would be proud. The how will come if you believe.
