Faith or Give Up

What happens when you stay in faith even amid ruin? I can actually answer that!

Last month was shaping up to be brutal income wise. Negativity, in my own mind, was snowballing to the point I was in a very dark place. My day job is sales, and we no longer get commission vouchers to know where we are during the month with no real way to track. Not the fairest method to manage sales people “not my monkey not my circus.”

Handed deal after deal saying credit was not sufficient to purchase. Yet no notes that the company even tried beyond sending it in. Finance you have to walk on more difficult credit customers. Since this was my job for the last 25 plus years of my career. Particularly hard for me when I know some could be deals.

hope, prayer, freedom

Letting all this get to me it clouded my brain. Frustration took over.

Somehow through all of this, I mustered up the courage to continue to let God know that I was still here. Over-and-over I would say, “God has me.” Staring a mountain of debt in the face each month is tedious.

During the month, I would take time to just let God know I don’t see a way, so please make a way. I freely admit most of the time, I was really stressing out. Somehow though I was able to show God that it might only be a mustard seed of faith, I have hope.

Finally arrived pay-day. Contemplated how I would survive the month, what was I going to lose, on-and-on. Had asked God many times to please show me he is with me, that I don’t want to be in this dark hole.

My friend, who works in accounting stopped in my office to hand me my paycheck. As I sat in my chair, bracing myself for the worst. Opening the envelope to immediately look at the dollar amount. I had to stare at it for a moment to realize it was so much more than I imagined it would be. “Oh, my” and I began to cry.

Not only could I meet the obligations, but I also have enough left to pay extra. Not any other time in my life did I feel so humbled.

Keep in mind we are not privy to our income. Sales commissions can range from $100 to thousands, but we have no real way to know. So opening your paycheck is literally like seeing a lottery ticket. It may win big or may not win at all.

The point to all of this is, stay in faith. Even when you cannot see a way, a way is being made if you let God know, do the work you need to every day. I admit honestly if giving myself a grade, it would be a D-, yet as the bible says:

Matthew 17:20 King James Version (KJV)

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; it shall remove; nothing shall be impossible unto you.

We all struggle through tough moments, and it is very hard not to lose faith and hope. For many years in my life, something like this last month, I would have thrown in the towel long before God could provide a miracle.

You just have to talk to God.

Job vs.Your Choice Career

Are you in a job that you either hate or just it’s just a means to an end? Too old to think you can change telling yourself the cliche it is what it is!

Twenty-somethings this is a good article for you as well. Do you want to spend your life in a dead-end job or do something that you love?

career, dream job, passion

If you want to change the trajectory of life. Live life on fulfilling your dreams then read on.

The first thing it is never too late or too soon to figure out what you want to do to sustain your life.

Questions to begin:

  1. If time, money or education was not the problem what would you do?
  2. If age was not a limitation what would you do?

Take a moment and write down your answers. Give this some real thought.

Where most fail is self-doubt. You fail before you ever even try. Don’t start with the I can’t excuse. “Whether you say you can or can’t you’re right.”–Henry Ford

Don’t fall prey to old paradigms that have stalled your life. Whether young or old you will define your life by the actions you do or don’t take. Bad habits such as self-doubt can be overcome. It just takes a bit of practice.

Question 2:

  • How do you define success over your life? What does success look and feel like to you?

Take a few minutes to answer this question. There is no right or wrong it’s what you feel.

No matter what you wrote down your definition needs to be how you feel. Not influenced by others. Sometimes you have to take this journey on your own. A well-intentioned family may hinder your progress with negativity. Them saying you can’t is an opinion, not a reality. Same with close friends.

Making a major change in your life sometimes requires you to walk alone. Do not despair, spiritually you’re not alone.

As you come into your own, folks close to you will come around. Remember misery loves company so choose wisely whom you share aspirations with. Only bring into your life those that will uplift you!

Take time to think all this through, get very clear on your direction. Set a course and never look back! Godspeed.

Activity vs. Productivity

When we think about what it is that we’re currently working on. Is it activity or productivity? Can we even decern the difference?

Too many folks confuse activity with productivity. Big difference between the two. Busy work is just that busy work. Rarely will that yield any sort of measurable progress.

success, self help, career

How can we decern the difference?

  1. Set measurable goals for the day. Plan out a few key things to get done the night before and focus solely on those tasks until complete.
  2. Don’t allow outside distractions deter from the task at hand. Turn off the cell phone,  email, and shut your office door, be out of pocket for this time.
  3. Organize the day the night before. Say from 9AM to 9:30AM I will complete this task and so on. Don’t stop until it’s done. When done move on to mission 2.
  4. Don’t allow yourself to get distracted daydreaming. Focus on the task-at-hand.

Just because you think your busy does not mean you’re getting anything done. The foregoing sets clear benchmarks to achieve daily. This is the best way to assure results.

If you’re a team leader or manager. Set clear tasks in the same manner.

With just a couple of changes to your day, amazing progress can be made to propel you forward. Godspeed!

Daily Quote

This is one of my all-time favorite quotes from Michael Jordan:

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”–Michael Jordan
