Vitamin D & You

Vitamin D plays an essential role in many areas of your health. It contributes to bone strength, heart health, and disease prevention. It also plays a vital role in the immune system.
One study found that insufficient levels of vitamin D3 have been reported in 36 percent of healthy adolescents and 57 percent of adults in the U.S. Other studies estimate that one billion people worldwide have insufficient vitamin D3 levels.
A significant challenge to overcome high rates of vitamin D deficiency is that it’s not easy to maintain sufficient levels of vitamin D with diet and lifestyle, according to Amy Myers, M.D.heart health, fitness, yoga
Nicknamed the “sunshine vitamin,” the primary source of vitamin D is through sun exposure, which triggers a process on your skin that produces vitamin D.
However, busy lifestyles mean we’re spending fewer hours outside. On top of that, fear of skin cancer means wearing sunscreen during that limited sun exposure, which reduces the body’s ability to absorb vitamin D by more than 90 percent. Living farther north, where you receive fewer direct sun rays, or having darker skin, which consumes less sunlight, further reduces your ability to produce vitamin D.
Not many foods are naturally rich in vitamin D. These foods include salmon, fish liver oil, organ meat, such as the beef liver and egg yolks.
Vitamin D works as a kind of light switch in your body, turning on or off genes and processes that your body needs to maintain health. Active vitamin D is sent to many different areas of your body, including your bones, intestines, colon, brain, and immune cells, which all have vitamin D receptors, according to Meyers. The active vitamin D binds to these receptors and promotes vitamin D responsive genes, essentially turning them on.
Adequate levels of Vitamin D reduce your risk of infectious disease by strengthening your natural immune system, according to Myers. Vitamin D turns on essential peptides in your immune system that trigger a strong anti-microbial response, allowing you to quickly and effectively fight off invaders before they can develop into a full-blown infection.
If you decide to take a vitamin D supplement, it should be vitamin D3, the form of the vitamin that is most beneficial to your body. Also, because vitamin D is fat-soluble, it should be taken with a meal for better absorption.
According to a report from WebMD, one study proved that people who take their vitamin D supplement with the most substantial meal of the day get as much as 50 percent better absorption.

Adopting a Pet 5 tips

Without hesitation, I can tell you adopted pets are lovely. If your family is considering a pet, I hope you will consider adopting before you make a final choice. I am a happy adopting pet owner!

dog, cat, pet adoption

To have a successful pet adoption experience here a few things you need to do:

  1. What type of lifestyle does your family have? Active, somber, children, other pets? Choose pet bread that matches your families lifestyle.
  2. Do you have a budget set aside for pet care and maintenance? Vet bills, food, preventative medicine?
  3. Does your landlord allow for pets, if so what is the deposit?
  4. Do you have time to take care of the animal? Pets get destructive because of separation anxiety or boredom. Make sure you can take your pet for walks, dog park visits and so on.
  5. If you have children make sure, they’re not allergic to pet dander, cats or the like. Some small children do have animal allergies.

Before you just wander into a Pet Shelter or Humane Society, do some homework. Some dog breeds have tons of energy if your family is not able to play with dogs like this, get them lots of exercises. Honestly, it may not be a good fit. Lots of people love Lab’s but don’t realize these are water dogs who like to play.

Breeds have different temperaments, the biggest failure in owning a pet is getting a breed that requires more than families are able to give. The good news with a little research and right questions at the Shelter you can choose the right dog for your family.

If you have questions we’re happy to answer:

Desire in your Life

Desire

“The starting point of all achievement is desire.” Napoleon Hill

The sad thing about desire very few have it or understand it’s real meaning. Most people say that have a desire to do this or that, but in reality, they’re not willing to dig in to achieve it. That’s the real difference between hope and wish. You can wish to do something those with desire actually do it!

self help, success, freedom

Desire is a passion you must fill your being with. It’s not something you learn; it’s something you have. If you don’t feel it in your soul then maybe you need to rethink what it is you’re doing.

Desire:

  • Should fill your soul
  • Should get you up in the morning
  • Should be unwavering
  • Should be without fear
  • Should drive your every waking moment

What do you desire?

  • Peace & Contentment
  • Security
  • Financial Success
  • Relationship Success
  • Family Success

Then what are you doing? If you aren’t up every day with a sense of desire to achieve life on your terms, then really what are you doing? Lots to think about is it not?

Do not confuse desire with a wish. “I want success” is a wish, a passion drives you to do something about it.

This book will touch a lot on it takes work to achieve anything you truly want. It does just not come to you, the success that is. Anyone married for over a decade will tell you a good marriage takes work.

We will use this statement throughout the book:

If money and time are not the roadblocks in our way, what do you want?

To find our genuine desire, you must have a passion for what it is you want to do. So if no roadblocks existed, what you would be doing in your life?

STOP HERE

What I would like for you to do is to do a few things to define what you would like to be successful at and then we will find our desire. We’re going to find one thing that we can do NOW to find success in one part or all of our life. Change is eminent in this exercise!

  1. Find a place where you can feel inspired. Park, pond, river, mountain, backyard, wherever you find peace and solitude. Clear out your head and identify what you would like to do. What will bring success to you?
  2. Have a notepad and pen. Write your thoughts out. Again don’t sabotage it with I will “never be able to afford this,” “I am not smart enough,” blah, blah, blah…
  3. Take as much time as you need. Don’t procrastinate, if you need a day to work this out take it but don’t get off task!!! Now go.

Welcome back!

For most of us, this is a hard task. We’re so used to dismissing dreams it’s hard to imagine achieving one. So lovely job completing this task!

So you have your WHAT, that thing that defines success for you. This is the one thing where you should begin to feel desire.

The dictionary defines desire as
Along for, hope for. Noun

You should feel this in your very core.

Okay, so we have a lot more to cover. Most of you are saying now what?

Fear Of Success

“Apple Computer would not have reached its current peak of success if it had feared to roll the dice and launch products that didn’t always hit the mark. In, the mid-1990s, the company was considered washed up, Steve Jobs had departed, and a string of lackluster product launches unrelated to the company’s core business”.– Naveen Jain

it’s time to overcome fear!

Fear of success, you would d think not a soul would have that. You would be wrong. Many folks have a fear of success. Sadly many will sabotage any chance for success, by saying “it’s too hard,” “I don’t have the resources,” or quit because it’s hard. Ever heard the phrase no pain no gain, (I know an old cliche)?

The actual difference about a winner and a loser: Getting up one more time! Being able to take a shot from life, get knocked the f&*k out and getting up one more time. In the face of what is the point, get up! If you can do that, you will succeed.

self help, happy, overcome fear

Most of us are afraid of the unknown so don’t feel like you’re the only one. If you jump out and leave yourself vulnerable what is the worst thing that might happen? Seriously? What the hell are any of us afraid of? Oh my God, we might fail! Okay, then what? If all you did was put yourself out there to achieve something more and you failed, now what? You didn’t die, you’re still standing, breathing, 10 fingers and 10 toes.

The worst thing you have to begin again. What the hell is wrong with that. You contemplate your next plan of attack. Choose a new path, what does that path look like? Stop being afraid to just try something new. Find something you’re not scared of. Perhaps it’s when you met someone you were really attracted to. Most people can talk more shit when it’s something that they really want than they ever imagined possible. Some of you would call that game. Why because they are passioned about the end result. Fear is no longer an issue.

Ladies when you’re trying to land that perfect guy you want to spend the rest of your life with. Your conversation is on it’s “A” game. Fear diminishes because your charms take over.  The end result decreases all fear.

What we’re saying here is find the passion in what you’re doing, what diminishes fear is game. Learn all you can about what it is you want to do. Have “game.” When you find the exact reason for what you wish to achieve, family, success, relationship or building the next great business. Find what truly passions you and then allow yourself to stumble, fall, bust your ass over and over. Until one day you take a shot and you don’t fall, you take hit after hit, and you’re still standing. You look around you and figure out you have the game, you have confidence in YOU.

So some of you are still sitting here saying easier said than done you ass. You don’t just change. Okay, I will give you that to some small measure. Until you make a conscious decision to change, I mean a no bullshit decision without any caveats. Then yes you will not find the change you seek.

Most people kick their own ass. You lose before you ever get in the ring to fight, by just telling yourself you can’t. Or you listen to naysayers that say you can’t, sadly these are usually people close to us family.

So stop telling people what you’re going to do and do it! Don’t tell a soul what you doing, misery loves the company and guesses what the only person that wants success for you, Damn well better be just you. Mothers will say, “oh yes honey I want you to be the President of the United States, but with one caveat don’t hurt yourself” sorry princess you don’t get jobs like that without taking some real shots to the gut (no offense Moms, people close to us love us and don’t want to see us in pain, that’s natural).

If you can’t take a shot from life right to the balls and get back up. Then expect the same result you now achieve. You have to put yourself out their take shot. It may be painful, it may hurt, but it won’t kill you! What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger don’t you love stupid cliches.

If needed stand in a room by yourself and scream at the top of your voice “I am not a scared pussy, and those that think I am can kiss my fucking ass.” Scream that as loud and crazy as you can. Stop reading and do it now if you’re not in front of children. If you are, scream in a pillow. Do something that gets your blood boiling, be mad at the world and tell the world NO MORE, I AM DONE, IT’S MY TURN TO WIN.

So you go out and try something it utterly fails, you look foolish, WHO THE FUCK CARES? What colossal injustice you suffered for a whopping few minutes. Next week, next few days I doubt anyone involved will even remember your screw up. So don’t be afraid to screw up because if you jack it up guess what your not so special that people honestly give two shits they’re dealing with their own shit.

Take time to find passion in what you want to try. Yell, scream, get excited about your whatever. Don’t be afraid to screw up. It’s not the end of the world if you do. Kid drops a high fly ball to center field and loses the game. What does a parent say, don’t worry son you will win the next one, it was a mistake, and you will get the next one. So yes folks guess what if you screw up you will get the next one.

You can overcome fear, I bet if someone bitch slapped your Mom, you could find the strength to fight back to protect her. If someone were hurting you or a family member, you would see the strength in yourself to fight back. So you can overcome fear with the right motivation. Merely being sick and tired of being sick and tired, should move your ass. Stop taking a beating to get up and hit back. Methodically of course!

Still not convinced you can overcome your fear? First off it’s okay. Fear can be debilitating if you let it. Things can be easier said than done, that does not mean impossible. Nor is it impossible for you to change.

Change can happen by taking baby steps. Do one thing, just a straightforward matter to overcome fear. Go to a coffee house and strike up a conversation with a total stranger. If nothing more than in passing saying “how about this weather?” If it’s awful, make it just getting off your ass and going out the door. We’re not candy coating things get off your ass and do one thing. I am not asking you out on a second date, do just one small step! That act in and of itself is a step forward, excellent job!!!

Job vs.Your Choice Career

Are you in a job that you either hate or just it’s just a means to an end? Too old to think you can change telling yourself the cliche it is what it is!

Twenty-somethings this is a good article for you as well. Do you want to spend your life in a dead-end job or do something that you love?

career, dream job, passion

If you want to change the trajectory of life. Live life on fulfilling your dreams then read on.

The first thing it is never too late or too soon to figure out what you want to do to sustain your life.

Questions to begin:

  1. If time, money or education was not the problem what would you do?
  2. If age was not a limitation what would you do?

Take a moment and write down your answers. Give this some real thought.

Where most fail is self-doubt. You fail before you ever even try. Don’t start with the I can’t excuse. “Whether you say you can or can’t you’re right.”–Henry Ford

Don’t fall prey to old paradigms that have stalled your life. Whether young or old you will define your life by the actions you do or don’t take. Bad habits such as self-doubt can be overcome. It just takes a bit of practice.

Question 2:

  • How do you define success over your life? What does success look and feel like to you?

Take a few minutes to answer this question. There is no right or wrong it’s what you feel.

No matter what you wrote down your definition needs to be how you feel. Not influenced by others. Sometimes you have to take this journey on your own. A well-intentioned family may hinder your progress with negativity. Them saying you can’t is an opinion, not a reality. Same with close friends.

Making a major change in your life sometimes requires you to walk alone. Do not despair, spiritually you’re not alone.

As you come into your own, folks close to you will come around. Remember misery loves company so choose wisely whom you share aspirations with. Only bring into your life those that will uplift you!

Take time to think all this through, get very clear on your direction. Set a course and never look back! Godspeed.
